Empowering children for a brighter future.
Positive Vibe
With all the news about the coronavirus outbreak, it’s natural to worry about our well-being and safety and for our loved ones. This surely a very stressful time for everyone. The children at the Faith Rescue Home Philippines aim to provide positivity in spite of the situation so they have made the video below.

Supporting a home for underprivileged children.
The San Fernando Race Foundation is a Hong Kong registered charity formed to support the Home Of Loving Faithfulness in San Fernando, Northern Luzon. Support for the home came about from sailors participating in the bi annual San Fernando Race, one of the world’s classic blue water offshore yacht races run every odd year from 1977 to 2017.
In the 1980’s sailors decided they wanted to put something back onto the community that welcomed them so warmly and a decision was taken to help the home, then supported by the US military. Following the explosion of Mount Pinatubo in 1991 the US forces pulled out of the Philippines and support from the race became all the more important. In the final race under British Rule of Hong Kong, and supported by the Royal Navy, a new kitchen was unveiled and there began a closer relationship that today has us looking after every need of the 32 children under our care and mentorship.
Unfortunately the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club stopped the San Fernando Race in 2017 and since then support from Members of the Club has fallen significantly. In light of this we need to reach further afield for help to look after these children. Its should be noted that this is not an orphanage. Though there are children there with no parents nearly all there are from severely underprivileged families who simply cannot afford to have them at home.
We are very lucky to have an amazing small group of people who administer the home and care for those living there. These same people visit the families to ascertain the actual needs are genuine and entrants to the home are very carefully vetted. Once approved both the child and parents commit that the child will do his / her best during their tenure, which is generally until they leave college. The administrators are very strict and those who don’t uphold their end of the deal are asked to leave.
How You Can Help?
Annual operational costs amount to around US$50,000 per year, or US$4 per recipient per day. On top of this there are upcoming maintenance projects such as a need for a new roof, guttering, internal flooring, new motor for the well and a renovation of the kitchen. Being in the climate it is there is a constant stream of work lists and many of the smaller jobs are performed by those living in the home itself.

“With the support from the Foundation, we have been able to support the children better than ever.”
